China Everbright Limited volunteers together with their children visit underprivileged cataract patients in "Lifeline Express" Eye-Train Hospital at Baishan
Since 2014, China Everbright Limited ("CEL", stock code: 165.HK) arranged parent-child volunteer team to visit the Eye-Train hospitals and cataract patients in Shandong, Heilongjiang, Guiyang and Baishan, providing help to paramedics and bringing love to patients. This year, 26 volunteers from Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao office together with their children visited the underprivileged cataract patients of “Lifeline Express” Eye-Train Hospital from 18-21 August in Baishan City, Jilin and had a gathering with the students in mountain area.
In the “Lifeline Express” Eye-Train Hospital, volunteers had a sharing session with the medical practitioners and learned about the pathogenesis and treatment of cataract patients. They also visited the cured patients and shared their joy of restoring their eyesight. Since its stay at Baishan from end of July, nearly 500 cataract operations have been conducted successfully on the Eye-Train hospital. At the school in mountain area, the volunteers and students had a vivid and lively book sharing session, the volunteers also brought the students some books and stationery as gifts, both the volunteers and children enjoyed themselves very much.
During the 4-day trip, volunteers have deepened their understanding on the services provided by Lifeline Express. Also, the kids can have a real life experience for poverty through the visits to the needy families in China, which can nurture their kindness to people, and inspire them to cherish their health and happiness.
Over the past few years, CEL has formed a close partnership with Lifeline Express and becomes one of the largest funding sources helping the charity treat cataract patients in poverty-stricken areas in Mainland China. CEL has been sponsoring Lifeline Express’s annual gala dinner for 6 consecutive years and made substantial donations to support their fund-raising events such as the charity Golf Days and fundraising concerts. In 2016, CEL supported Lifeline Express’s “International Sight Saving Mission”, to help the underprivileged patients in Sri-Lanka to restore their eyesight.
